Bath Soak Recipe

This recipe is so easy and works for so many different ailments. It is a good idea to keep a batch on hand, you never know when someone will need it. My hairdresser swears by a detox bath for colds and flus. She says, even if you can't soak, make a paste out of the ingredients and rub it on your skin before showering. This bath soak will also assist with aches and pains due to over exertion.
Ingredients:
  • Epsom salt
  • Baking Soda
So that's it, basically two ingredients. I found everything I needed at the dollar store. The baking soda takes away stress, which can act as a toxin to your body. Epsom salt removes toxins. Epsom salt is said to be able to help with the circulatory system as well as improving nerve functions.
Directions:
Mix together Epsom salt and baking soda, I used the entire package of each. This mixture made six half cup bags for me. I placed them in clear loot bags also found at the dollar store. This is the base recipe. You can add essential oils to this mix as needed for different needs. See the additions section below for a few idea.
Suggestions:
Soak in as hot a bath as you can comfortably take. Soak for at least 20 minutes if not longer.
Your body should sweat during and after. Take a tepid shower afterwards to remove the toxins your body has sweat out.
Additions:
The addition of ginger will aid in causing your body to sweat due to it's warming effects.
The addition of Eucalyptus oil possesses very potent antiseptic and anti-fungal qualities. It is known to be extremely effective against the common cold, coughs, and for remedying sinus issues, as it eases mucus, clearing the head of any “stuffiness.” Because it is both cooling and germicidal, eucalyptus can help with fevers and migraines.
Lavender is a natural relaxer with balancing, calming, and purifying properties as well as a sleep aid.

What is a Carrier Oil?

Essential Oils are potent. They are often referred to as "hot" which means they may cause a burning effect/feeling to the applied area. This can be typical if you have sensitive skin. Oils don't dilute with water so you need an oily substance to dilute with. This is where the carrier oil comes into play. Young Living has a V-6 oil which is a vegetable carrier oil. Other oils that you might have heard of that work as carrier oils are coconut oil and grape seed oil.

Wake Me Up!

A citrus/mint combo such as peppermint or spearmint and orange can be diffused in the morning what a great aroma to wake up too. You can send the kiddos to school with a roll-on bottle and so they can roll it on their wrists. For children under 5, replace the mint with fir. Mint can be strong so you might want to dilute it with a carrier oil if you are worried about sensitive skin.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus can be used for aches associated with a cold, flu or minor muscle injuries; also for congestion. When diffused, it is thought to stimulate the senses, in addition to clearing the nasal passages. Used much like Vick's VapoRub and applying to skin, take a few drops and mix with a teaspoon of a carrier oil, then rub it on your back, chest and feet bottoms.
